Student Code of Conduct

Tarkio Technology Institute holds to the highest academic and ethical standards of conduct. Students, who are shown to have cheated or plagiarized work may be suspended for a semester or longer depending upon the seriousness of their infractions.

Cheating and plagiarism as well as inappropriate classroom behaviors will be defined in the course syllabi. Students who do not follow these guidelines will be warned and, if the behaviors are repeated, they may be suspended or terminated.

Students who have repeatedly been shown to cheat or plagiarize work may be terminated and not allowed to re-enroll in Tarkio Technology Institute.

Felony convictions do not exclude admission to the school, although admission may be denied to individuals whom the school considers to be a potential danger to the safety, security, and educational environment of the school. In order to help foster a safe learning environment, the school requires those individuals who have been convicted of a felony, and who are interested in attending classes at the school, to disclose this information prior to registering for classes. Failure to disclose a felony conviction may result in the student being immediately withdrawn from current classes and may result in disciplinary action including dismissal or expulsion.

Dress Policy

While students may be asked to dress appropriately for classes and school events, Tarkio Technology Institute does not have an official dress code and a dress standard will not be enforced. Any special clothing or equipment to ensure the safety of students will be described in course syllabi. Faculty will be responsible for reminding students and assuring they wear required clothing and equipment for their personal safety. In courses requiring safety equipment or clothing, students will not be permitted to participate in class activities without the appropriate safety clothing or equipment.

Student Grievance Policy

Students may make formal grievances in writing to the office of the Vice-President of Academics. Within five business days of receiving the grievance, a panel will meet to hear the grievance. More time to prepare for the grievance can be requested by the griever. The panel will consist of three persons, one of whom will be a member of the faculty or staff, one a representative of the student body, and a third will be selected by the griever. Both parties in the grievance may present witnesses and documents. A decision from the panel will be presented in writing to the griever within three business days following the hearing. If a griever is dissatisfied with the panel’s decision, the griever may meet with the Vice President of Academics to discuss further alternatives.

If a student is dissatisfied with the resolution offered by the school, the student may contact the Missouri Department of Higher Education at (573) 751-2361 for information on filing a formal grievance against the school.

-The school encourages students and employees to resolve any conflicts and grievances through informal means before making a formal grievance.

Attendance and Deadlines

Course syllabi will state: “Students are expected to attend classes and to meet deadlines. Attendance and meeting deadlines are essential to learning in practical trade and technology courses. They also are important in the workplace. Where attendance is impacting the successful completion of in-class assignments and tasks, grades may be affected. Students may be academically withdrawn from a course at the recommendation of the instructor when attendance impacts class assignments so that students are failing.” Course syllabi may assign a grade for attendance and in-class participation. Faculty will encourage students to complete all work and meet all deadlines. While the school doesn’t have an official policy about late assignments, faculty may penalize students for late assignments. These guidelines will appear in the course syllabi.
